Pen Company of America (PCA) is proud to say that we have been manufacturing our writing instruments in the United States since the 1920s, right down to the injection-molded plastic components and writing cartridges.
We remain dedicated to our U.S. manufacturing roots and resisted the pull of offshoring, even during the difficult years of the 1990s and early 2000s, when almost every other pen manufacturer moved production overseas

Our Story

Our company is now helmed by fourth-generation members of the Shea Family, with knowledge passed down from their great-grandfather and their grandfather, whose name was practically synonymous with pen manufacturing in the United States.
Pen Company of America (formerly Rotary Pen) is the largest manufacturer of truly Made-in-the-USA ballpoint pens and markers in the country, achieving some impressive feats out of our 60,000 -square-foot factory in New Jersey:

• We mold more than 500 million pen components annually
• We manufacture and ship over 750,000 pens per week
• We hold several product patents

With the help of modern equipment, a committed workforce, a keen eye for new ideas, and a passion for providing quality USA-made products, we continue to excel over other pen manufacturers who import pens from contract manufacturers overseas.

What Makes Pen Company of America Unique?

Our internal methodologies, capabilities, and processes are what really sets Pen Company of America apart from our competition.
All of our pens are molded, assembled, and printed in our New Jersey factory. In addition, we have the ability to mold custom colors of writing instruments.
We also have our own in-house machine tool shop that enables us to maintain our proprietary molds and work with customers on large concept projects.
These unique capabilities came into play when a Fortune 500 company asked us to create a pen that was made in the United States. The challenge was that they also wanted something no one else had in the marketplace. We made a modification to one of our existing tools to develop their own style pen. They were so happy that they have used that pen as part of their annual campaign drive every year for more than five years.

Our Vision

At PCA, our primary vision is to continue to manufacture high-quality products right here in the USA. We put American pride into every product that leaves our factory, whether it be for a small business purchasing giveaway pens or a Fortune 100 company with a comprehensive branding strategy. Products such as our patented RevMark® marker line and Garland Executive Series keep us on the cutting edge of new concepts in writing instruments.
We are committed to Corporate Social Responsibility, Community through Diversity and Environmental Consciousness. Our company statements in each of the three categories can be found below, along with our Supplier Code of Conduct.
We are proud of our roots. We are proud of our employees’ dedication which has kept us producing pens and markers for over 60 years. We are proud to be uniquely American in the ballpoint pen and marker manufacturing industry.

The Impact of COVID-19 at Pen Company of America

Along with the rest of the country, the promotional industry took a hit during the COVID-19 pandemic, as people stopped traveling, attending conventions, going to banks, and patronizing local businesses. The need for pens dropped precipitously.
Instead of cutting back, our solution to this challenge was to increase our online presence and expand our retail line. Thanks to this direct-to-consumer initiative, our customers can now purchase quality pens, pencils, and markers under our RevMark® retail brand on Amazon.

Giving Back

At Pen Company of America, there is a commitment to giving back to our community and causes that are important to us. We recognize that donations both in terms of product and funds go a long way in assisting those in need and building a better community for tomorrow.

We are proud to support numerous charities and provide writing instruments to children in various impoverished communities.

During COVID-19, PCA repurposed part of our factory to make face shields for local hospital systems. We were able to donate shields to local police and EMT staff. We proudly sponsored 6 scholarships for nursing students at our local community college as a way to honor those on the front lines.

We are a proud sponsor of Marine’s Toys for Tots organization and the United War Veterans Council.
